Discover the power of I Am affirmations (+ 20 affirmations for happiness, success and abundance)

Learning to override some of the habitual thought patterns we develop over the years is a necessary tool in personal growth. ‘I Am’ affirmations are a great way to do this! They are personal and can really challenge our perceptions of how we see ourselves. By repeating these affirmations in our conscious mind, we start to plant seeds into our subconcious mind.

And that’s where the magic begins!

What are affirmations?

An affirmation is an assertion that something is true. The definition of “affirmation” is a statement or sign that something is true. So positive affirmations are statements or phrases that we say to ourselves, either aloud or in our heads.

Beginning the statement with ‘I am’ is simply a powerful way to personal the affirmation.

They are so powerful because our conscious mind chooses them and affirms them, but our subconscious mind hears them, and believes them.

And by saying these affirmations daily, we build the strength of this belief until it becomes a natural part of who we are.

Positive affirmations

The good news is that we always have a dialogue going on inside of our head, so it’s easy to tap into. The bad news, is that most of the time it’s negative talk. In fact, the folks at GoodTherapy say that research shows that nearly 80% of our self-talk can be negative. That’s a lot!

And this negative talk, like “I can’t do this” or “people don’t like me”, tears down our self-esteem. It creates doubt and fear. So you can imagine how beneficial it is to stop these negative thoughts in their tracks, and replace them with positive thoughts that, overtime, become a natural habit!

The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible and achieves the impossible.

Winston Churchill

“I am” affirmations are truly some of the most powerful.

I am strong.

I am beautiful.

I am capable.

They are personal, and they can be uncomfortable if you are not used to positive self-talk. But they will ultimately build your self-esteem, confidence and faith in yourself when you hear your own voice say these things over and over.

Do affirmations really work?

Can affirmations really change your life? Heck yes! Imagine for a moment that we turn that 80% of negative talk on it’s head, and 80% of your self-talk was positive. Can you imagine how dramatically that might change your outlook on life? On yourself?

Affirmations allow us to be more intentional with our thoughts, and to make more conscious decisions about how we choose to see both ourselves, and those around us.

Plus studies also show that positive thinking increases our productivity and creativity. So not only does it change the may we perceive our environment, but it actually changes the way we interact with it. It changes our behaviour!

I am affirmations increase self-esteem and creativity.

How long does it take for affirmations to work?

Honestly? They are working from day one. The beauty is that they just get more and more powerful as you use them. You are teaching your subconscious a new way of thinking and creating a strong foundation for a positive mindset.

Why are affirmations so important?

Let’s be very clear here. That voice in your head? It’s you. And you are telling yourself all sorts of things, all day long. ALL DAY LONG.

Sometimes it’s general chit chat – I wonder what the time is, I’m starting to feel hungry…

Sometimes it’s thoughtful or kind – I must remember to ring grandma tonight and check in, looking goood today 😉 …

And then other times it can be a little less than kind – I should’ve known better, I always mess up, I will never be good enough. Or even just untrue.

We are so capable of intentional, conscious living, but we just don’t often do it! Using a few well chosen affirmations throughout the day is a great way to do this. Are you ready for some examples of positive ‘I am’ affirmations? Let’s get into it! 🙂

There is nothing, nothing, more freeing than knowing and believing that you are enough. Although I think it’s great that we strive to achieve our dreams and goals so that we are challenging ourselves, I don’t believe in striving to be some ideal version of ourselves that we are not. Every little thing about you, every quirk, every passion, every doubt, it’s all… you. And that’s enough.

I am loved and valued.

I am excited and happy to start each day.

I am open to new things.

Talk with your kids about what superhero powers they have. Some might be fun and silly, and some might be completely honest like their ability to make you smile even when you’ve had a long, tiring day. Or to make you feel safe even though that’s your job!

If you can’t find an affirmation that resonates with you, or you feel like you don’t quite know where to start, I highly recommended finding a video you like on YouTube, plugging in some earphones and just having a listen.
